Inventions made by universities and research institutes in the State of Thuringia are supported by a structure of patent promotion and commercialisation since 2003. Within Thuringia the "Patentverwertungsagentur" (PVA, patent and commercialization agency) implements the commercialization campaign of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), that was started with the abolition of the privilege of university teachers and the amendment of the employee invention act.
The tasks of the PVA are the consulting of inventors, the evaluation of inventions concerning their patentability and chances of commercialisation, the patent application in cooperation with patent lawyers, the planning and especially the realisation of commercialisation strategies, partly in cooperation with transfer agencies of other federal states.
