The Hermann von Helmholtz Association of National Research Centers (HGF) addresses the following major national issues of provident research in the interest of the public: Health, Earth and Environment, Energy, Space and Transport, Structure of Matter, Key Technologies.

Work of the scientists, engineers, and technicians gives rise to 500 patents annually. An excellent infrastructure and very good scientific working conditions are the reasons, why about 7000 guest scientists come to the Helmholtz Centers each year.

To open up the know-how of the individual research institutions, a joint center-overlapping internet portal was developed. This marketplace of competence presents the HGF competencies in terms of topics or persons to industry in particular.
