How to use Technology Offers

Product name

Nanovector has developed new oral, transdermal and retinal delivery for drugs, hormones and nucleic acids

Summary

Solid lipid nanoparticles with preclinical resp. clinical proof-of-concept in cancer, ophthalmology, inflammatory diseases and Parkinson

Organization name

Nanovector S.r.l.

Profile

Founded in 2001, NANOVECTOR (NV) is working in nanomedicine, with a specific focus on developing its technical platform for drug-delivery applications. Proprietary lipid nanocarriers, microemulsions (µEs) and Solid Lipid Nanoparticles (SLNs) have been tested over recent years, delivering different drugs by different administration routes: short overview of main results obtained will be given. The delivery system platform has shown and confirmed promising characteristics: focusing on SLNs, the loading possibility for hydrophobic and hydrophilic drugs, four tested administration routes, i.e. intravenous, oral/duodenal, eye topical and transdermal, rapid internalization into cells, in vivo targeting to districts usually not reached (brain, eye posteriorglobe), crossing the intestinal mucosa, thus allowing administration ranging from intravenous to oral. NV aims to exploit the proprietary technical platform to develop therapeutics in areas with strong unmet medical needs and with promising market opportunities.

NV“s IP position is protected by several patents mainly relating to Solid Lipid Nanoparticles (SLNs) produced from warm microemulsions.

NV is now looking for strategic alliances to exploit recent patents targeting to the posterior globe of the eye through SLN eye-droplets, nucleic acid delivery for in vitro and in vivo applications, and transdermal drug delivery exploiting SLN formulations. Therapeutic areas of interest are the central nervous system (CNS), oncology, ophthalmology and inflammation, with particular focus on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

 Highlights

  • Nanovector µEs obtained at room temperature are a sustained-release drug-delivery system for subcutaneous/intramuscular and transdermal administration routes
  • Nanovector SLNs are a sustained-release drug-delivery system for intravenous, duodenal/oral, eye topical (eye droplets) and transdermal administration routes
  • Nanovector SLNs can reach the retina: proprietary eye-droplet drug delivery may represent a real breakthrough in ophthalmology, where posterior eye diseases are at present only treated by intravitreal inserts or injections
  • Nanovector SLNs can deliver nucleic acids for in vitro and in vivo applications
  • Nanovector SLNs can cross the blood brain barrier: diseases of the CNS entail unmet medical needs. Nanovector is developing formulations for brain tumor therapy
  • Nanovector SLNs are targeted to the lymph after administration by the duodenal/oral route, allowing administration of drugs that are poorly absorbed by GI
  • NV“s lipid carriers are excellent formulations to deliver drugs with low solubility by the intravenous route.
  • Nanovector is focused on developing products in the areas of the CNS, oncology, ophthalmology, and inflammation.

In the attached document you find detailed descriptions of the preclinical resp. clinical proof-of-concepts obtained so far.

Additional more detailed information about the proof-of-concept experiments is available on request.
