How to use Technology Offers

Product name

Specific detection of Mycobacterium avium ssp. paratuberculosis (MAP) from University Giessen

Summary

Highly specific and highly sensitive real-time PCR based test for the early detection of Mycobacterium

Organization name

TransMIT GmbH

Profile

Paratuberculosis

  • is an incurable infectious disease in ruminants, caused by Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP).
  • these bacteria are suspected to infect also humans and to cause or to support the chronic inflammatory intestinal disease Morbus Crohn (MC).
  • nowadays, the dairy industry annually suffers a significant economic loss due to the milk yield reduction 10-20 % in the animals concerned, disease and veterinary costs, decreased slaughter values, and cattle trade problems.

Concept

Up to now, the detection of Mycobacterium avium ssp. paratuberculosis is very difficult and infections can unfortunately only be confirmed in a very late stage. Consequently, from time to time contaminated food products (e.g. milk) could be released to market which may possibly become a health risk (Morbus Crohn) for humans.

Scientists from the Justus Liebig University Giessen were able to develop a specific and at the same time highly sensitive real-time PCR procedure for the detection of Mycobacterium avium ssp. paratuberculosis. With this molecular biological PCR procedure it is possible to detect even small traces of Mycobacterium avium ssp. paratuberculosis in milk, fecal, organ, or tissue samples and to identify infected animals already at a very early stage.

Detection of the paratuberculosis agent Mycobacterium avium ssp. paratuberculosis (MAP)

  • specific and highly sensitive real-time PCR procedure with optimally designed primers and simultaneous amplification of two marker structures of the MAP gene
  • false-negative reactions are almost eliminated, due to the inclusion of an “internal amplification control (IAC)“
  • automated use in high-throughput procedures

Possible cooperations

  • We will conduct this test procedure for you in our laboratory according to your instructions: Please request an offer and/or send us your sample material.
  • License our patented procedure for the detection of MAP and carry out this method routinely in your own laboratory; we shall be glad to train your staff with respect to the correct application of the real-time PCR procedure.
  • License the patented procedure and distribute the respective test kit yourself.
