NanocarriersSummary
Nanoparticles for transport and delivery of active componentsOrganization name
PROvendis GmbHProfile
Nanocarriers have been developed by Professor R. Haag and his team at the Department of Organic Chemistry, University of Dortmund, Germany. These delivery particles are characterised by an innovative architecture with a dendritic core and a multilayer shell.
Due to their defined structure these nanocarriers are much more stable than ordinary micelles which have been widely discussed for nano-transportation so far. The multilayer design allows the specific adjustment of the carrier to the loaded substances. The shell is tied to the core by chemical linkers and shields the encapsulated molecules. The linkers are accessible to changes of the micro-environment, so that selective targeting is possible. The nanocarriers are stable in a neutral environment, for example, while they degrade when being exposed to an acidic pH-value.
Advantages:
- Defined molecular structure leads to high stability of the construct
- Individual adjustment of carrier to loaded components
- Transport of polar and non-polar substances feasible
- Sterilizable and suitable for storage
- Usable for positioning polar substances into a non-polar environment, e.g. cosmetics
- Degradation of shell is subject to conditions of micro-environment
The functionality of the nanocarriers has been verified by several laboratory experiments. A priority patent application for nanocarries (substance manufacturing, application) has been filed with the German Patent Office in August 2004, the corresponding PCT application in August 2005.
This technology is offered by PROVendis the transfer office of the state of Northrhine-Westfalia.
