How to use Technology Offers

Product name

DRPevader - early diagnosis and prognosis of proliferative diabetic retinopathy (DRP)

Summary

Ex vivo-diagnosis and prognosis of early DRP using whole blood

Organization name

Provendis

Profile

A novel ex vivo method for immediate early diagnosis and prognosis of proliferative diabetic retinopathy (DRP) is provided with DRPevader.

DRPevader is based on the analysis of expression and activity of very few genes which can simply be determined using whole blood or a blood component. Therefore, DRPevader is the diagnostic link between the alteration of leukocyte gene expression, the activity of specific serum-markers, and proliferative DRP.

Commercial opportunity

DRP is the leading cause of visual loss in diabetic patients, also affecting the young diabetic population. There is a need for a reliable prediction of the risk to develop proliferative DRP, for early diagnosis of DRP as well as to estimate the probability of DRP progression.

DRPevader is able to address those issues in a quite simple fashion: Gene expression data on the one hand and activity data on the other hand are set into correlation to determine the specific risk factor of the individual patient. All data can be generated from blood components using state of the art methodology without the necessity to analyze a lot of genes or factors. For DRPevader, a focus on three to five specific genes and two factor activities is sufficient.

Therefore, DRPevader offers the possibility to develop and market a reliable diagnostic kit for DRP.
