With the aid of SteRT a completely automated system for the monitoring and documentation of the sterilization process of medical devices can be realized. For this purpose the RFID-Tag is coupled with a micromechanic or electronical system. This combination will be integrated in the medical device. After the sterilization process the receiver-/transmitter-unit reads out the identification number of the RFID-Tag and the information about the sterilization process and forwards this information to a documentation system.
The technology of SteRT is robust and reliable, so it is specifically suitable for medical applications.
Commercial application
SterRT allows a reliable monitoring and documentation of the sterilization process. Parameters of a common vapour sterilization are recorded, stored and finally transmitted to documentation system for analysis and further processing.
On basis of the transmitted data a continuous documentation and monitoring of the sterilization of medical devices can provided. Additionally many further processes in hospitals like the replacement purchase can be automated.
SterRT is application-oriented: no additional handling of the staff is necessary and SteRT can contribute to the quality improvement in the medical sector.
Current status
A patent application has been filed in june 2005 at the German patent office. PROvendis on behalf of the Münster University of Applied Sciences is looking for partners for the further development of SteRT.
