Ipal is offering the use of Agouti for the therapy and prevention of infectionsSummary
Use of melanocortin receptor antagonist for the treatment of stroke induced inflammationOrganization name
IPAL GmbH, Charitè University Hospital BerlinProfile
Agouti is a melanocortin receptor antagonist, which plays a classical role in skin pigmentation and in immune modulation systems.
Agouti depletion provokes acute inflammation in mouse models. The inventors found, that application of agouti in early therapeutic stadium led to lower bacterial load of the lung compared to non treated animals.
Pneumonia after stroke is one of the most common complications with high possibility of death. Thus agouti can be used for early therapy of stroke associated infections, early therapy of pneumonias and sepsis and general antiinfective prophylaxis in other immunosuppressive diseases induced for example by medication or HIV.
Competitiveness
- Alternative therapeutically strategy to antibiotic approach
- Application is not restricted to infection prevention in stroke patients
- Invention meets an attractive market (stroke as widespread disease and application on other immunosuppressive diseases)
A German patent has been filed. Additional information is provided in the attached pdf. The invention was made at Charité Universitaetsmedizin, Berlin, Germany and is offered by IPAL.
