Calibrated Mechanical Pain Measurement DeviceSummary
estimation of a patients´ pain sensitivity in medical or neurophysiological examinationsOrganization name
IMG Innovations-Management GmbHProfile
Until now, however, there is no reliable and reproducible method for mechanical pain assessment. The instrument we now offer makes a standardized pain measurement feasible by the use of calibrated mechanical pain stimuli. The mechanical intensities of the stimuli range up to the pain threshold concomitant without damage of the skin. This allows a standardized assessment of therapy-outcome of interventional pain studies. According to the general principles of somatosensory perception the various stimuli form a geometric series of forces, which typically encompass a range below and above pain threshold.
Application
The innovative stimuli are a test battery for medical and neurophysiological diagnosis. They allow the standardized activation of skin nociceptors and to document a patients´ / subjects´ pain response. Direct comparison of patient records from different patient collectives are now ready for standardized documentation.
Advantages
- Set of 7 instruments with different stimulation pressure (8 to 512 mN)
- Stimulus application is independent of the examiner, it only depends on the stimulus weight
- Compact and solid metal design
- Fulfils standard criteria of medical hygiene in a clinical setting (can be sterilized!)
- Can be used for imaging diagnostic (e.g. for positron emission tomography -PET- and for functional magnetic resonance imaging -fMRI-)
Stage of Development
- Fully developed device
- Ready for production and distribution
- Recommendation by the "European Federation of Neurological Societies (EFNS)"
- Neuropathic Pain (GNNP)"
