Product name
Apoptosis-Inducing Metal-Containing-Nucleoside-AnaloguesSummary
The efficiency of inducing apoptosis by nucleoside analogues is significantly increased when a metal complex is added to the new chemical entities by Nucleoside analogues.Organization name
IPAL GmbHProfile
Advantages
- Strong apoptosis-inducing properties
- The metal-containing nucleoside analogues (MEcNA) are structurally novel
- The compounds are different from previously known nucleoside analogues used for therapy (e.g. cytarabine and fludarabine -5´ dihydrogenphosphate)
- Induce apopototic cell death not only in permanent cell lines produced from tumors (e.g. BJAB, MCF7, NCI-H460, HCT 116, DU 145, MaTu, MaTu- ADR cells), but also in primary cells of patients suffering from acute leukemia (CML, AML, ALL and ALL-Rez, IC50 in the range of 2-10μM)
- MEcNA-induced apoptosis is CD95/Fas and Caspase-3 independent
- Capable of breaking existing resistances towards cytostatic agents
- Due to the pronounced lipophilicity of the substances trespassing of the blood-brain barrier is possible. Therefore, MEcNA´s may also be employed for malignant brain tumors
Patents have been granted in several European countries. Patent applications are filed in the US and Japan.
The technology was developed at Charité-Universitary Medicine Berlin and is offered by IPAL.
